Night Siege: The Hudson Valley UFO Sightings ~ Usually ships in 2-3 days
by J. Allen Hynek, Philip J. Imbrogno, and Bob Pratt / Paperback / Published 1998

New Year's Eve 1982 marked the beginning of one of the most puzzling UFO cases in recent times: the Hudson Valley "siege." The siege begot over 7,000 sightings of a boomerang-shaped craft or crafts moving silently through the sky over New York and Connecticut between 1982 and 1995. "Night Siege" is the collaborative effort of Hynek, Imbrogno, and Pratt to report the data gathered from witnesses of this mystifying experience, without speculation of what it might be. If you missed the first edition of "Night Siege," this is your chance to delve into the Hudson Valley mystery. If you have read the first edition, you may be interested in the additional data covering sightings from 1986 to 1995, the graphical analysis of the UFO's appearance, and the chronology of the sightings. Aside from the purely factual value of the catalog of reports in "Night Siege," its coverage of an undeniable series of events that somehow went largely untouched by the local authorities and the national media invites speculation into the origins of these silent objects.

Glimpses of Other Realities: High Strangeness ~ Usually ships in 2-3 days
by Linda Moulton Howe / Paperback / Published 1998

Recovered crash debris, information from alleged military insiders, and the transfer of human souls from body to body--this isn't the script for the next SF blockbuster, but the voluminous exposition of evidence for a mystery involving the entire human race. What Linda Howe calls a "hall of mirrors with a quicksand floor" started as a simple argument about where strange lights in the sky come from and has turned into a discussion of entities with enigmatic motives possessing the ability to control the human mind. Howe didn't write "Glimpses of Other Realities" for light entertainment (this book is annotated and appended better than most university textbooks), and anyone who doesn't take the idea of alien encounters seriously will be challenged by the depth of the book's coverage. However, readers passionate about UFO and alien contact phenomena will be rewarded with a profusion of evidence favoring the existence of an extraterrestrial race. Howe connects this evidence piece by piece, like an immense jigsaw puzzle, but by the end of the book, the pieces form only the picture of a keyhole through which to peer. With no box lid to reveal what the whole picture looks like, Howe will hopefully gather more pieces soon.

UFO's & Alien Contact: Two Centuries of Mystery ~ Usually ships in 24 hours
by Robert Bartholomew and George S. Howard / Hardcover / Published 1998

The authors of "UFOs & Alien Contact" are admittedly skeptical, so readers looking for concrete proof of extraterrestrial intervention in human activities should search elsewhere. However, if you are interested in a social and psychological analysis of the UFO mystery, this is a good place to start. Bartholomew and Howard begin with the questions that arose from the suicides of the Heaven's Gate members who believed a UFO was waiting for their spirits. To find the answers, they examine the history of UFO sightings, from the mysterious airships of the late 19th century to the abduction phenomena of the 20th century. Admirably, "UFOs & Alien Contact" is not a judgment of whether or not aliens interact with a small portion of the earth's populace, nor is it an offhand diagnosis of the pathological dysfunction of UFO witnesses, but it is an objective analysis of an impressive catalog of case reports and an attempt to understand the role of UFOs within a postscientific revolutionary society.

Encounters with the Paranormal: Science, Knowledge, and Belief ~ Usually ships in 1-2 weeks
edited by Kendrick Frazier / Paperback / Published 1998

True to the form of Skeptical Enquirer magazine, "Encounters with the Paranormal" will ruffle more than a few feathers. This collection of articles from the pages of the controversial publication addresses paranormal phenomena from out-of-body experiences to UFOs and includes topics that most people don't immediately associate with the word "paranormal," such as subliminal messages and conspiracy theories. Readers might question why essays such as Martin Gardner's "Science vs. Beauty?" are included in a skeptical address of the paranormal, but this is the book's only glaring flaw. Once past these misplaced, but entertaining defenses of science and skepticism, the reader is treated to a host of thought-provoking articles like Susan Blackmore's analysis of near-death experiences and lucid dreams and the test of psychic crime detectives' success by Wiseman, West, and Stemman. While not everyone will agree with everything in "Encounters with the Paranormal," it is a stimulating discourse and testimony that those with doctoral degrees don't necessarily know everything.

The Threat: The Secret Alien Agenda ~ Usually ships in 24 hours
by David M. Jacobs / Hardcover / Published 1998

If you choose to believe the growing reports of alien abductions, the natural question to follow is "Why?" Jacobs reveals the knowledge he has gleaned from his own interviews with abductees, and it isn't pretty. Jacob purports that the human race is little more than breeding stock, walking incubators for a new hybrid race of human/aliens. What's worse, the first generation of hybrids is old enough to have its own agenda: to wield alien powers under human guise to psychologically and physically torment their human relatives. Fiction? Fantasy? Delusion? Perhaps, but the thought that such dark plots have been hiding in the depths of the human psyche and are now rumbling to the surface in increasing numbers is just as disturbing as the idea of a slow invasion by an alien race.
